This workshop will provide elementary and middle school generalists with tools to provide an engaging, communicative, and action-based French program regardless of the teacher's language ability.  We will discuss the necessary components of a language lesson and learn games and songs to accelerate language acquisition and increase student engagement. We will also look at how to bring the core competencies, First Peoples' Principles of Learning and UDL to the forefront of language teaching.

Target Audience:Teachers of gr. 5-8 Core French

Supporting Minimal English Speakers (ELL) in Content Classrooms

The ELL population is growing in the Okanagan, and many students arrive to classrooms with minimal English. This session is for classroom teachers (and supporting teachers) looking for strategies to differentiate content for ELL students. The District ELL Team will offer practical tools for translation, boosting interaction, and simplifying student output. The main tech tools that we will address include Google Translate, ipads, Youtube, Google Docs/Slides, and websites with leveled texts.

Target Audience: intermediate, middle, secondary classroom teachers and ELL/LAT specialists
