Okanagan Zone Teacher's Conference February 21st, 2020

This interactive workshop introduces teachers to BC Tomorrow's powerful new learning tools. The tools give users a chance to interactively explore sustainable solutions in their regions and watersheds. Teachers will be given a short presentation and then guided through BC Tomorrow's innovative, watershed-based three part educational program. The main driver of BC Tomorrow is it's cutting edge digital future scenario simulator.  The simulator helps students explore how land use choices today could positively or negatively impact the future. A set of instructional videos and the ability to link field observations to learning are the two other important elements of the project. Applicable at multiple grades and an ability to be applied from a range of perspectives, BC Tomorrow’s learning tools are powerful as students interact with real data to address real issues regarding the future of their regions. BC Tomorrow’s learning tools are also consistent with elements of Indigenous holistic learning principles. Watersheds are dynamic, interconnected, complex systems; their function can be positively or negatively impacted by land use. By studying them using BC Tomorrow’s learning tools, students can better understand the complex interactions at work within natural systems. Workshop attendees will have time to access the tutorials, practice with lesson templates, and/or design ways to incorporate BC Tomorrow’s learning tools into their own classrooms for use with their students.
